The awards season is in full swing and fans of the NAACP Image Awards will be able to fully experience the upcoming awards show by watching it live this Friday, February 6th and by downloading our newly launched Image Awards app in the Apple and Google Play Stores! The NAACP Image Awards is the nation’s premier event celebrating exemplary works by, for, and relevant to people of color and individuals or groups who promote diversity in the arts (motion picture, television, recording, and literature).
The majority of awards show fans watch their favorite ceremonies from the comfort of their homes. We predict that as these awards show continue to grow in popularity, there will be an increase in fan engagement. This year’s Image Awards app is an ongoing initiative to engage fans through social media and allow them to have a voice in the celebration of what takes place in the African-American community as seen in the “Socialize” feature contained in the app.
This year marks our second engagement with the NAACP Image Awards. Last year we built its premier mobile application which allowed users to browse a complete list of nominees, predict winners, view photos from previous Image Awards, get exclusive red carpet photos, and real time updates from the Image Awards’ social media feeds.
This year’s mobile application that we created with Appcelerator Titanium builds on these existing features and introduces new ways for end users to experience the event.
Photobooth – Fans can enter the Image Awards Photo Booth and swipe through the booth to access various fun stickers. These photos can be shared on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or sent to a friend as a simple text message.
User Activity – The popularity of the event and its accompanying hashtag (#imageawards) made it to Twitter’s trending list last year. To build upon its virality we developed a way for app users to gain a stronger sense of community within the app. The app quantifies all users’ activity (with accounts) into a “leaderboard.” The leaderboard displays the top ten most active fans. Activity is marked by how often you share things from the app on social media, predict nominees, watch videos and browse photos. Fans can see in a quantifiable way how much user engagement is going on in real time.
Enjoy the Show
An awards mobile application helps generate event buzz and offers tv-watchers an interactive way to experience an event. The Image Awards is exclusively aired on TVOne and to ensure users’ accessibility, the app helps determine if your television provider offers the TVOne channel and/or how to acquire the channel to watch the show. If people are unable to watch the show, they can substitute the live event for a streamlined social media feed that displays all Image Awards’ Facebook posts, Image Awards’ tweets and a feed of all public Instagram photos captioned with the event’s hashtag #ImageAwards.
