In a recent talk with, our CEO Aaron K. Saunders talked about our tech education arm Luma Lab and the impact that greater support for our program can have in providing “access to a career in tech for all students.”

In the article, Aaron talks about our ongoing effort to provide people from communities underrepresented in the tech sector a seat at the digital table as programmers, designers and entrepreneurs. He describes the work we did at Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science as well as the work we’re currently doing at Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington. Aaron and the education team here at Clearly Innovative recently branded the 3-year-old program to emphasize how Luma Lab is unique because we focus not only on teaching coding but also user experience, design, entrepreneurship and lean startup principles.

We are absolutely thrilled about the growing attention Luma Lab and the work Aaron has been doing for years is gaining. News outlets like are crucial to our mission because stories like “Extending STEM education beyond the hackathons and beyond the Anacostia” show the world our passion for preparing students to effectively pursue careers in technology. Their story allows people to explore Luma Lab and understand how “We’ve developed a comprehensive curriculum ranging from ideation and design, to programming and formal pitch competitions,” and that “More support for our program means more access to a career in tech for all students.”

That support generated through press coverage is valuable when it comes to pursuing opportunities to further our Luma Lab work like the Mission Main Street Grant from CHASE Bank. Grants like that allow us to do everything from hiring the most qualified staff for facilitating our program to purchasing IT equipment like laptops and coding education software.
